Big Project Moving Forward at Edinboro University
Edinboro, PA - A multi-million dollar project at Edinboro University that has been on the drawing board for several years is now about to finally move forward. And when it's done, part of the campus will look much different.
The $16 million project calls for a total facelift for 50-year-old Ross Hall to house the school's computer department, plus the math and computer science departments.
The building was opened in 1961, and served for a time as a dining hall. In recent years, the building housed computer labs. But school leaders felt the building needed a lot of improvements to keep up with rapidly changing technology.
So right now it's closed. And all the old equipment is being moved out so the renovation work can start.
But there is a second, unique part of the project. It's a 500 foot long elevated, enclosed walkway to link Ross Hall with the campus library. It will give students a way to cut across part of the campus, protected against Edinboro's cold, wind, and heavy winter snows.
Edinboro Vice-President for Finance and Administration Gordon Herbst said, "In the dead of winter, crossing the Edinboro campus can be rather daunting for folks. So by having a covered walkway it helps to tie in the facilities and provide a convenient means of getting from point A to point B."
Already on campus modifying Cooper Hall, Nello Construction will serve as general contractor and work alongside Roth Marz Partnership P.C.
Construction is slated to begin in January and take over two years to complete.
